The Program and Learning Design Specialist will lead the collaborative development of the School of Health & Public Safety’s (HPS) Curriculum Framework—a framework that intentionally builds durable (essential) skills and interprofessional collaborative competencies, as well as profession specific competencies. The role is an enabling, integrative, and facilitative position that leverages the Specialist’s curriculum design and pedagogical expertise with their health care experience to amplify, align and refine the input of key partners that include faculty, academic leadership, and patient partners. These key partners bring deep disciplinary, clinical, and contextual expertise, and the Specialist integrates this with their program and learning design expertise and healthcare background to create a curriculum framework that will shape the future of HPS’s health programming.
Working alongside project leads from HPS’s leadership team, the Specialist will lead a discovery process where existing programming within the School will be examined to support curriculum mapping and identifying opportunities for intentionally designing learning experiences to develop students’ essential skills and interprofessional collaborative competencies. Your goal is to co-create a curricular framework that is educationally sound using evidence-based pedagogical approaches, is feasible, and aligned with accreditation and institutional requirements. The framework will outline how the existing program structure and courses could be modified and updated. This role will use the framework to further clarify the resources needed for a phased implementation of the curriculum framework across HPS health programming, aligning with the larger roadmap for the Center of Innovation in Healthcare Education (CIHE) implementation.
Success in this role is measured by the quality of collaboration, clarity of shared understanding, and usability of the resulting curriculum framework with a clear understanding of implications for implementation.
The ideal candidate will have a mix of knowledge of/experience in healthcare systems, accreditation and curriculum design. You have a curious mindset, good understanding of pedagogy, and experience in competency alignments. Furthermore, you have strong skills in communication, collaboration and are results-driven. You can incorporate advice, insights and feedback from various interest holders, which could include, but are not limited to, faculty, curriculum administrators, program development coordinators, instructional designers, academic leaders and patient partners.
